Murazar College was established in the year 1989 with a grand mission to disseminate knowledge of higher education to the students of religious and linguistic minority and rural area of greater Murazar region under the District of Nagaon of Assam.
During 1980\'s some concerned citizens mooted the idea of setting up of a senior college for creating facilities for college level education at Murazar. With this aim, a public meeting was convened by Late Alhaj Forman Ali, Ex.-MLA, Late Adv, Abdul Choudhury and Amiruddin Ahmed. The meeting was held on 8th August 1989 in the premises of Murazar H.S. School under the chairmanship of the Ex-MLA. This public meeting formed an executive committee and authorized it to start the spadework for establishing a college at Murazar. The renowned educationist late- Abdus Salam was the former and founder principal of Murazar College. It is noted that Murazar College is the only higher education institute facilitating the students to get degree education who are socially and economically week.
The college is situated at Murazar which is well connected by all seasons of PWD road. The College can be approached from Nilbagan to Howraghat road which is connected to the four line express highway. It is located at a distance of 55 km from Nagaon town and 16 km away from Hojai town. The college since its establishment has been consistently maintaining high academic standard and good institutional responsibilities. The college is a single stream Arts college and the medium of instruction is English and Assamese. It is permanently affiliated to the Gauhati University.
In the initial stage the financial burden of the teaching and non teaching staff and all other borne by the College GB and only source of income was student’s fees. In the inaugurate year, there were 17 students only however, at present we have 958 students studying in the college. From the humble beginning the college has attained this structure because of hard and dedicated endeavour of the faculties, the College GB, students and local public. The college is now running in its own land and building.
